Khanya is a professional ballet and contemporary dancer with the Landestheatre Detmold Germany. He was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He started ballet training at the age of 10 with Dianne Cheeseman at the Cape Junior Ballet School. He then continued his training through Cape Town City Ballet’s Male Development Programme and the Cape Junior Ballet Company in 2007, training primarily in ballet but also in contemporary, jazz and pilates.
During his school going years, Khanya danced in many Cape Town City Ballet Productions which included Coppelia, Peter Pan and Nutcracker. He took part in many competitions where he won a gold medal in the RAD Genee Dance Challenge in 2011, received a scholarship to the American Academy of Ballet Summer Intensive, competed in the RAD Adeline Genee Silver Trophy Competition and was a finalist at the South African International Ballet Competition where he was awarded a full scholarship to the Alvin Ailey School of Dance in  New York City.

After matriculating in 2014, Khanya trained under Martin Schönberg as a full-time vocational ballet student for 2 years. He performed and toured in the South African National Dance Trust’s production of A Spartacus of Africa, and in Adele Blanc and Martin Schönberg’s production of Archangel. During his time in full-time vocational training he also became a certified pilates instructor through the University of Stellenbosch.  In 2017 Khanya was accepted to the Europaballet St Pölten Conservatory in Austria where he spent 3 years working as an apprentice and gaining experience in the European ballet industry working with Wienestaatsballet (Volksoper), Hugarian Dance Festival, Sopron Ballet, Sadttheatre Baden Ballet de Dschunglebuch, Renato Zanella, Michael Fictenbaum, Peter Bruer and Reiner Feisle. In addition, he has performed in his own choreographic works and solo’s with Europaballet Ensemble.

Today, at 25, he is working as a soloist at the Lanestheatre Detmold Germany performing in works such as Letters and Messages, Le Sacre, Winter, Pas de Deux and Tanz zum Advent. He is known for his exceptional work ethic and professionalism, his light and gravity defying jumps as well as his very striking stage presence accompanied by a wonderful musicality.
