Studio Director & Teacher
Formerly known as Ruley School of Dance, Gift of Dance is now directed by Canadian dancer Amanda Klotz and her husband Gustav Klotz (co-director).
You can catch Amanda in the Dance movie Honey 3 - from Universal Pictures. She features as one of the Core dancers in the movie which was released end of 2016!
In November 2017 she also featured in a scene in the recently released South African movie "Kanarie"
Amanda assisted the international company Cirque du Soleil with their South African dance auditions, and worked alongside them as a local casting partner. In 2013, Amanda was invited to Mumbai India, to teach at "Artists In Action" Dance Convention alongside some incredible international choreographers. She's danced in the Warner Bros. Feature film "House Party 5, tonight's the night" (See the video clip on the videos page!), choreographed by Chuck Maldonado (choreographer/dancer of Stomp the yard, Step up 4, etc.)
You may have also seen Amanda dancing 3 seasons on SA Idols with such artists as Khaya Mthethwa, Lloyd Cele, HHP, Liquideep, Kurt Daren, Sindi Nene, Mark Haze, Elvis Blue, Dave Van Vuuren, to name a few. Some of her most unique performance experiences include Canadian Forces Military tours to Afghanistan, Bosnia and Dubai where she and a team of entertainers put on shows for the military troops.
Her first professional dancing job was on Carnival Cruise Lines where she first met her South African husband Gustav Klotz.
Amanda began teaching in Penticton BC Canada at Okanagan Dance Studios (at the time it was directed by her own dance teacher Cheryl Blumke) at the age of 16 and hasn't stopped since! Amanda has received her SA colours as a Hip Hop coach on several occasions.
Amanda is certified teacher in the DanceCor syllabus, as well as the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and Alixa Flexibilty and has done training courses in various other syllabi including Progressing Ballet technique, TDA's Body Conditioning programme with Pat Gush, and many more.
Gift of Dance, under Amanda's direction has produced 2 semi-finalist crews at HHI World Championships - the biggest hip hop competition in the world! Hashtag and Nobility crews both made it to Semi finals (the only South African crews to do that in 2018 and the first from SA in many years!). Hashtag finishing 17th in the World in Juniors, and Nobility finishing 27th in the World in Varsity! This earned our dancers the top achievement and honour of Protea Colours for Hip Hop once again.
Amanda is trained in Hip Hop, Modern/Jazz/Contemporary, Tap, Musical theatre and Ballet and has trained in
Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver and many more cities, with some of the Dance industry's finest!
Amanda will be teaching modern, tap and hip hop, and when Acro and Musical theatre are reintroduced to the schedule, she will teach those as well.
Hip Hop teacher
Shameelah also known as "Shami" or "Shamrock"
also featured in Honey 3 movie as a core dancer!
She is highly skilled in all hip hop styles and is known here in South Africa especially for her skills in the style popping.
Shameelah will be teaching the technique classes for us once again this year, which are compulsory for our competitive level dancers. Those who are competition hopefuls should also consider trying Shamis technique classes out.
She will also be teaching some of the weekly hip hop classes, and assisting with coaching our competitive crews again this year as well as some solos, duos etc.
We are so excited to have her back again in 2021!
Ballet and Modern Teacher
Caitlin Mackay started ballet training at the age of 4 and modern dance training at the age of 5. She began her ballet training with Ilze Louw and joined Dianne Cheesman's Cape Junior Ballet Company in 2009. She completed her Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 examination with Distinction in 2013 with Kim Day at Reddam House Dance Academy with additional training from Dianne Cheesman at UCT ballet school. She trained in modern dance with Colleen Kitching for over 12 years touring to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival for four different seasons. She spent 2014-2018 training as a full time vocational ballet student under the instruction of Martin Schonberg.
She has toured to Portugal with the Cape Junior Ballet Company and danced in various overseas workshops with English National Ballet, The American Academy of Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. She has performed in, Cape Town City Ballet's productions of Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia, performances of 'Dancers love Dogs' and 'Dancers for Dancers', the National Dance Trust's production of 'A Spartacus of Africa' and Martin Schonberg and Adele Blanc's 'Archangel'.
Through the University of Stellenbosch she has qualified as a Pilates teacher now working for the Claremont Chiropractic Health Center, is in her final year of RAD ballet teachers training and is completing her AIDT modern teachers qualification.
