GIFT OF DANCE
About Our Styles
We offer classes in Acro, Ballet, Hip Hop, Modern, Musical Theatre & Tap.
Acro / Acrobatic Arts
The acrobatics, specifically the Acrobatic Arts syllabus, is a sweet combination of dance and gymnastics.
Focusing on flexibility, strength, balance, and tumbling.
In a class, students engage in warm-ups, conditioning, flexibility training, and skill-specific drills like handstands, cartwheels, and aerials.
At Gift of Dance, we believe acro is an art form in itself and should be treated differently to gymnastics or contortion.
We teach the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and focus largely on the integration of safe and technical Acro skills into dance.

Ballet / Royal Academy of Dance
Ballet, one of the most classical and artistic forms of dance, has a rich history.
It first emerged during the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century, before France and Russia developed the techniques further. Additionally, the word “ballet” itself is a French word derived from the Italian word “Balletto,” which means “to dance.”
Ballet has become famous worldwide in the 20th century, infiltrating cultures from countries all around the world.
Today ballet continues to evolve and has become more and more athletic to suit the ever-changing audiences it serves.
A balance of artistry, storytelling and technique are the true markers of a ballet dancer today.

At Gift of Dance, we teach the RAD syllabus and unlike our other styles of dance, offer exams every year.
We are very proud of the growth of ballet as a dance style of since its integration into our school in 2019 with our ballet students now achieving at a very high level across the board.

Hip Hop / DanceCor
Hip Hop dance has evolved into a dynamic and multifaceted art form that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries.
Originating in the Bronx, New York during the 1970s, hip hop dance began as a way for marginalized communities to express themselves creatively through breakdancing, popping, and locking. These early pioneers laid the foundation for a movement that would grow to influence music, fashion, and popular culture around the globe.
Fast forward to today, hip hop dance continues to thrive and innovate. It has embraced new styles and techniques while staying true to its roots. The dance form now includes intricate choreography seen in music videos, performances, and international competitions. Additionally, hip hop dance has found its way into mainstream entertainment, with television shows, films, and even theatre productions celebrating its vibrant energy and creativity. It brings together people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of belonging and unity. As it continues to evolve, hip hop dance remains a powerful testament to the resilience and ingenuity.

At Gift of Dance, we teach the DanceCor syllabus and focus more on urban styles like locking, breaking, house etc.
This gives our dancer an athletic, groovy and clean approach to hip-hop which we are known for.

Modern / AIDT Dance
Modern dance is a technical and expressive style that emerged in the early 20th.
There is a huge emphasis on self-expression and musicality allowing the dancer to truly embody the intention of the choreography.
At Gift of Dance we cover Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary dance styles in these classes and use it as an opportunity to teach the dancers about how to use their technique to express their story from within.
This is our largest and most popular style of dance offering an awesome spring board for our dancers to further specialise in dance as a profession. Gift of Dance teaches the AIDT syllabus and offers exams for all the students.

Musical Theatre / Open
Musical theatre isn't a single style but a storytelling dance form blending Jazz, Ballet, Tap, and Contemporary to express character, emotion, and narrative within a show. It serves as a "third language" alongside dialogue and song to advance the plot and develop characters.
Musical Theatre focuses on acting through movement, using steps and gestures to convey meaning, not just for technical display.
Dancers are often "triple threats," skilled in singing, acting, and dancing.

At Gif of Dance, we do not teach a specific syllabus of musical theatre but focus on exposing the students to a wide range of productions and shows while teaching them to combine their skills in acting, song and dance.

Tap / DanceCor
Tap dancing is a style of dance where we make music with our feet.
It is a fun-filled and high energy dance style, excellent for learning about rhythm and musicality.
Though tap dance has its origins in the 17th century, it became well-established in America by the late 19th & early 20th centuries.
Tap dance is known for its syncopated, catchy beats and improvisational choreography, which links it to jazz music.
At Gift of Dance, we follow the DanceCor Syllabus and teach the dancers from a foundation level and up.
